I remember when digital cameras first started to get popular and I had those mixed feelings as a long time amateur filmmaker, like “this means that everyone can do it and I’m not special anymore”, coupled with “this means there will be distribution options that are free”. Anyway, since then I’ve had my films seen by thousands thanks to YouTube and Ifilm, but now I recently realized a third thing “this means there will be a glut of film footage and no one will want to pay for anything anymore”. I used to sell my stuff to stock footage houses, but it seems like now there has been such an increase in film artists that that’s getting harder and harder. I recently found a new option, http://offspot.com/Default.aspx and have actually sold something! I can upload my work there, only it’s all mobile phone based - it’s also a place where people can go to pay and download my work for their mobile phones. I’ve just built a profile on there recently, but I’m slowly getting the hang of what sells and what doesn’t, and I’ve finally got a little stream of the American dream: passive income.
