Dragon Ball Z: Sagas ReviewThe Dragon Ball Z series of games was starting to get better, especially the 3D fighters for PlayStation 2. However, they had to go and make a game like this. Sagas is slow, repetitive and low-quality. It looks like a PlayStation 1 or Nintendo 64 game. It was so bad! I don't know who bought this game, but if you did, trade it in at your local game store, if not, don't buy it. These are reasons why.
Gameplay was the worst part . You run around and do silly little combos and attacks. Combat style is so bad, it's hard to believe it's Dragon Ball Z. You punch enemies with single attacks. The enemies will sit there even if you aren't attacking. Then 3 seconds later start a single combo attack. If you or an enemy performs a “combo finisher” and it misses or is blocked, they sit there, dumbstruck and vulnerable. You will jump up and down and cannot do anything until the enemy is finished doing their combo, as you will sit there and jump up and down while taking your beating. You also have an energy attack, which hardly does any damage and can be blocked. How can a big explosion be nullified by holding your arms in front of your face? You can charge it up, but it is just as weak as the normal blast. You find poorly hidden coins to buy attacks. There is the grab, which doesn't do any damage, the spin kick, an okay attack and some other stupid poor examples of supernatural powers. You can also buy combos, the same combos for each character. There are numerous glitches, including the 'bat' glitch, where you grab an enemy and hold them forever without letting them go under your arm. You then swing them like a bat, and it's funny and would work great, but unfortunately, this game makes it that you have to defeat all enemies before moving on. This is annoying, and most of the levels are basically travel through a single level and fight all the enemies and a boss. It features a co-op mode, but during boss-battle-only levels, you two must “tag-team” using the same character. You have about 30 seconds before the other player must take their turn, and the timer doesn't stop counting down if you fall or anything. So largely, game play is terrible.
Audio was awful also, sporting random tunes and beeps and noises here and there. I can't say much else. The cut scene sound was okay, but could have been 3 times better in my opinion.
Graphics were regretful; I like the animated graphics of PlayStation 2 Dragon Ball Z graphics better. The cut scene graphics were a lot better than the normal graphics of the game, but did NOT make up for them. I like the slow-motion graphics, especially explosions. However, many glitches affected visuals, too. How the enemies turned sideways funny, and how you would get knocked back when the enemy hardly did anything. Motion is undoubtedly out of the question.
Overall, here it is...
+ You don't have to buy it.
+ Fans may like it.
And, of course,
- Bad graphics (except cut scenes).
- Bad game play style.
- Bad camera.
- Terrible co-op.
- So much more I can't list it.
Replay value is low. Very low.
I only recommend it to Fans of the series, and even they won't like it, because I am a fan, and I must say, I am displeased.
Final verdict: 2 / 10.
I rest my case.
