The Sims ReviewIf you were the lonely kind of person at school who always used to hang around by yourself at the edge of the playground at breaktime, The Sims is just the game for you. You create a family of simulated people (Sims) and move them into a house which you must furnish for them. Then you may control how they live their lives. Virtually everything is left in your hands.
There is only one mode of gameplay, but it's practically never ending. There's always something new to do, each time you load the game is a new experience. There are also hundreds of extra items readily available across the Internet that you can add to your game. If you're an exceptional programmer, you could even try your hand at making your own. There are also many expansion packs you can purchase for a very good price (seeing as they're a couple of years old now).
The graphics are very good, even by today's standards. Everything is very realistic (as realistic as possible anyway). There are a variety of costumes for your Sim to wear, all of which look fantastic.
The sounds are also very good. The Sims talk in an odd language (I personally think it sounds a little like Spanish), but it's quite amusing to listen to. There are also different radio stations for you to listen to as you play (assuming you have a radio), including Rock and Latin.
Overall, The Sims is a very good game. It can now be purchased fairly cheaply, but it's a game you will play once and become addicted to. It has a huge lifespan, meaning you can play for weeks without getting bored, because there is always something new to do. This review was added on 19th December 2004 by Dan Clement.
