WWE Smackdown Vs Raw ReviewThe WWE series is quite easily THQ's best franchise. A new game is released ever year or so, and with the possible exception of Just Bring It, they have all continued to better themselves. Last year's Here Comes The Pain was not only the best wrestling game to date, but one of the best games.. full stop.
So with such a hard act to follow, I was looking forward to playing Smackdown Vs. Raw, THQ's latest offering. Unfortunately, it doesn't live up to expectations.
The graphics are as good as ever. The wrestlers who have been computerized have been justice. Virtually everything is done impeccably, perfect to the last detail. For the people that only buy the WWE games for the bra and panties matches, yes, they look good as well.
The sounds are amazing. From the moment the wrestler's music hits, it's like you ARE at ringside, watching a real match. That's how much attention has been paid to sound.
King, Tazz, Cole and JR make their return, and although some people dislike the game commentary, I feel it just wouldn't be the same without them.
The game features the usual variety of matches, without much improvement or new material. Online play has been added, which is a really nice touch, but it feels somewhat limited. Because more attention has been paid to multiplayer, single-player season mode has suffered quite a hefty blow.
Overall, Smackdown Vs. Raw isn't so bad. It's playable, and that's the main thing. Although it's nowhere near what players had in mind. Better luck next time THQ. This review was added on 29th December 2004 by Dan Clement.
