Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Review

The first was utter brilliance and the second was like sitting on a hornet nest, but the third, well, it's better than the second. Dante has his attitude and style back, and so is his brother.

Devil May Cry 3, is the best in the series and a prequel to the first game. It's the fight of dante against his power seeking brother, Vergil.

For newcomers, Devil May Cry is an action game that combines the thrills of close combat melee weapons (sword etc.) and long range modern weapons (guns, bazookas etc.). by far the combat is what makes the series what it is but the little extra touches give a great feel to the game. the FMVs are impressive and full of acrobatic moves and skills. the charaters are well designed, the backrounds are inspiring and the music adds to the impresive atmosphere with the perfect sounds for each situation. and not just the music. all the in game sounds (swords clanging, enemys dieing, weapons swishing and guns blasting) are pitch perfect.

Though the story may be predictable at times it makes up for that with it's action. With 20 levels and many secret missions to be discovered the replay value is enormous.
The enemies are all desingned with their own skills and look but the bosses are amazing, and most will gift you with a new weapon after their defeat.

But the greatest improvement is the new upgradable styles with every enemy killed they gain more experience. With 4 available at the start and 2 more unlockable your battles may never go the same. Trickster weaves around your opponents, swordmaster destroys them close up, gunslinger assaults them from afar and royalguard defends and moves into more strategic positions.

There are better games but DMC3 is right up there. Essential for any PS2 gamer and a game almost guaranteed to take up hours of time. I would reccomend it, magazines reccomed it. If that's not enough then buy it yourself and experience it.
