DRIV3R ReviewNow in a bargain bucket near you: Driv3r. One of the most hyped up games and also probably the worst 3D free roaming game out there. The highly anticipated Driv3r was in development for years and when released it sold like hot cakes.
Of course, the driving is the main appeal of the game. Which is one of the few things that make the game any good. And it would add so much more to the title if it was like it's predecessors and stuck to being a driving game. Which it doesn't. It introduces an entire new genre to the game. The most appalling on foot gun combat ever seen in a game. And unfortunately Atari have taken the game's main strength and installed around about half the game with a man who runs around like his legs could snap off at any minute.
Another negative to driv3r is how hard it tries to be a film when it can't. It's a game, and a game that should focus more on what it's good at. Once playing the driving sections the game becomes enjoyable, but then another on foot level destroys it.
Though the story is divided into missions a free roam mode can be chosen rather like the getaway with 3 islands to choose from. The only trouble is you have to quit to change from one relevantly small and boring island to the other.
The last good point is Driv3r's film director mode. Wow this game wants to be a film. It actually lets you record what you do in a mission or free roam by placing cameras around.
So, it's all grinds down to one thing. If you want car chases you'll like it. If you want on foot action you'll hate it. This review was added on 11th August 2005 by Thomas jack jenkins. |
